Beloved sheriff's office K9 retires from service

Last Friday, July 12, a St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office K9 hung up his badge and retired from service.
Kormi, the sheriff’s office’s 10-year-old, black German Shepherd, was imported from the country of Hungary as a puppy and trained in Little Rock, Ark., before beginning work in St. Clair County in 2016.
The loyal K9, who is trained for detecting drugs, articles and tracking people, has detected illegal drugs on numerous occasions, leading to the arrest of several individuals. Kormi is also known to many around the St. Clair County area as he has often been seen happily interacting with the public at numerous community events over the years.
“Kormi has been a part of this agency and the community for several years and will be missed,” the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office said last week. “[In retirement], he will continue to live with his handler, enjoying the remainder of his years as a normal dog.”
The sheriff’s office’s K9 program currently has two other German Shepherds in service; Havik and Babs, both extensively trained in a variety of skills.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office thanks county citizens for their support of the law enforcement agency and its K9 program.
